En biología, la cofia o caliptra es una cobertura cónica que rodea al ápice de la raíz y provee de protección mecánica a las células meristemáticas cuando la raíz crece a través del suelo. Las plantas con raíz existen hace millones de años; este trabajo hace referencia a nuevos crecimientos que recibe la biosfera planetaria.
